12 Best Essential Oils For Parasite Cleansing

“Synthetic or inorganic substances do not contain any ‘life force’; they are not dynamic. Everything is made of chemicals, but organic substances like essential oils have a structure that only Mother Nature could put together. They have a life force, an additional impulse that can only be found in living things.”

-Robert Tisserand

Humans have been fighting parasitic infection since the beginning of time. The first documented case of parasite infection found by archaeologists was dated around 1500 BC in Egypt. (1) So the need for parasite detox is not new. Ancient Egyptians may not have understood what they were up against. But now modern research in natural ways to parasite cleanse is expanding rapidly.

Parasites have developed some incredible self-defense mechanisms. This can make them difficult to eradicate. They are becoming increasingly resistant to drug therapies alone. This leaves us looking for other ways to help deal with them. Are there other methods to parasite cleanse?

Nature has provided us with amazing, delicious ways to make our body healthy with food. But there are even more concentrated substances from plants that have potent constituents to help increase our health. Essential oils are becoming a top field of study for the positive effects they have on the human body. The question arises though, what essential oils kill parasites?

Some of the best oils we’ve identified for this are:

  • Oregano
  • Thyme
  • Myrrh
  • Frankincense
  • Tea Tree oil
  • Fennel
  • Chamomile
  • Black Cumin
  • Clove
  • Tansy
  • Ginger
  • Cinnamon

Let’s examine each one and why they could be a great addition to a parasite detox protocol.

After that, we’ll look at the common constituents these essential oils have and how to apply them for optimum health.

1. Oregano

The word oregano translates to “mountain beauty.” This essential oil may undoubtedly be a beauty when it comes to a parasite cleanse. This strong smelling essential oil has a long history of use in natural medicine. How does oregano oil kill parasites? One way is it helps to prevent these organisms from producing biofilm. (2) Our immune system can then recognize and eliminate them. Oregano oil also reduced the pathogen’s ability to stick to red blood cells. It may also suppress the number of toxins the parasites were able to produce. (3) Oregano oil may be beneficial essential oil for parasites when taken daily for a few weeks. (4) It may also help to improve the intestinal issues that often accompany parasite infection.

Lyme can be a severe infection to treat. Lyme and parasite infection can often occur together. Parasites can carry Lyme inside them, resulting in more than one type of infection. A constituent in oregano oil called carvacrol helped to work against the Lyme’s ability to multiply. (5)

2. Thyme

Thyme has some of the same constituents as oregano. Because of that, it might be one of the most helpful essential oils for deworming humans. Thyme may help to increase nitric oxide. This can help to inhibit the parasites and aid in expelling them. (6) Thyme oil may also contribute to parasite detox. It can damage the internal structures of the parasites which helps to kill them. (7) It also helps reduce the number of larvae. Reducing the larvae may aid in combating reinfection.

Thyme oil has also shown to be effective against head lice. It seemed to help against the adult organism as well as the eggs. (8)

3. Myrrh

Myrrh oil for parasite detox

The word myrrh comes from another word that means “bitter.” Myrrh may prove to be bitter to parasites! Much the same way thyme can raise nitric oxide, myrrh may raise it as well, helping you in a parasite detox.

Parasitic infection can have some negative influences on the epigenetics of the host. This can lead to an increase of proinflammatory cytokines. Myrrh helped to change the gene expression regarding the cytokines. It also appeared to support the host’s system in recognizing the newly hatched worms. (9) This enabled the host to defend itself from the infection.

4. Frankincense

Among essential oils, frankincense is a universal oil. It has a wide range of health properties. It is sometimes referred to as “the king of essential oils.” Frankincense helps to lower inflammation and may be beneficial in reducing pain. It also could be a valuable part of a parasite cleanse.

Frankincense essential oils may help to prevent damage from parasite eggs. It may help to protect the liver from inflammatory chemicals that are produced when infected with parasites. (10)

5. Tea Tree Oil

This essential oil originates from Australia. Traditionally, it is used to disinfect wounds. It has a potent antiseptic type smell and may be an essential part of any parasite detox protocol.

Will tea tree oil kill parasites? Tea tree oil seems to have a lethal effect on parasite larvae. (11) It also helped to block the enzymes the parasites release to change their environment. These enzymes help the parasite but damage the host. Returning these enzymes back to normal levels can help you regain your health. This will help expel your unwanted visitors.

Tea tree oil seemed to work well against parasites or mites that infect the skin, even when they were resistant to other treatment. (12) It is also among a group of essential oils that may work against lice and their eggs. (13)

A vital part of an effective parasite cleanse protocol, is to break down biofilm. Tea tree oil may help to disrupt biofilm aiding you in your parasite detox. (14) It may improve immune system response to parasites as well. It could be valuable not only in treatment but also prevention. (15)

As great as this oil may be for you, it can be toxic to your pets. Be careful to not accidentally expose your pets if you choose to use it. Check with your vet before using any essential oil with your pets.

6. Fennel

Fennel is a root vegetable that is often used for indigestion. It has a strong licorice-like flavor. But it may be one of the top essential oils for deworming humans.

Fennel essential oil seemed to work well against adult worms. However, it was even more effective against the eggs and their development. (16) It is also the oil that can help to break up biofilm. (17) Fennel proved that it might be of benefit against drug-resistant Candida. Parasite infection can leave us vulnerable to other pathogens. Clearing out other organisms along with the parasites can make your parasite detox even more effective.

Pathogens also produce inflammatory mycotoxins. This can add even more stress to someone’s body that is fighting parasitic infection. Fennel may be beneficial in reducing the production of mycotoxins. (18)

7. Chamomile

Chamomile oil for parasite detox

Chamomile is one of the oldest natural remedies known to man. It has been used for insomnia, digestive issues and to calm muscle spasms. The essential oil of this versatile herb may also be an important addition to a parasite cleanse.

Chamomile essential oil helps to prevent parasite eggs from hatching. In addition, it helped to immobilize the adult parasites. (19) It may also be lethal to parasite larvae. (20) This effect on the larvae seemed even stronger when used with other essential oils.

Another potential benefit from chamomile oil is that it seems to inhibit biofilm. This can make parasites more vulnerable, adding to the effectiveness of the parasite cleanse. (21)

8. Black Cumin

Black cumin, or more commonly known as black seed oil has a wide array of benefits. It has anti-inflammatory properties, and it has valuable nutrients. It also might be particularly useful in a parasite detox.

Black seed oil seemed to have activity against all stages of parasites. It reduced the ability of the female parasites to lay eggs. It also caused the adult worms oxidative stress. This may damage the adult worm and make them more susceptible to the host’s immune system. (22) Black seed oil could be a top essential oil for deworming humans.

Some parasitic infections result in painful cysts that require surgery. Research shows that black seed oil may be very beneficial for these types of infections. This oil seems to affect these types of parasites rather quickly as well. (23)

One of the ways parasites remain in the body is that they “suction cup” onto the inside of our internal organs. Black seed oil appears to damage their suckers leaving them unable to adhere to the host. They also tended to be swollen, and some of them even seemed to lose their spines! (24)

Black seed oil may also be useful for parasites that attack the skin, like ringworm. (25)

One more important attribute about black seed oil, it too can help prevent biofilm. (26)

9. Clove

Clove essential oil is made from the flowering buds of a tree in the myrtle family of plants. It has been used as an antiseptic and an anesthetic in dentistry. It too shows signs of being useful as part of a parasite detox. It is a powerful oil. Clove oil has been used in alternative medicine for parasite cleansing for centuries.

Clove may be useful in inhibiting larvae of parasites. (27) It also seemed to be useful in cases of head lice. (28)

Clove oil may be helpful in fighting parasites that infect the skin. It appeared to induce apoptosis or programmed cell death. (29)

10. Tansy

Tansy is a perennial herb with small, tight flowers. Historical records suggest that it was first used by the ancient Greeks for several ailments. This includes as a parasite cleanse for intestinal worms. Science is now starting to confirm that tansy essential oil may be helpful for parasites.

Parasite detox is often focused on internal parasites that have infected the digestive tract. This is, of course, a critical part of the body to parasite cleanse. But we also need to be aware of parasites that first attack the skin. They then infect the rest of the body through the blood. They are a significant cause of disease worldwide. (30) Tansy may be one of the top essential oils for this type of parasite. Tansy substantially reduced their growth and increased their mortality rate. It also seemed to suppress the larvae. This potent essential oil also helped the host’s macrophages to attack the parasites. These multiple benefits may make tansy a great essential oil for deworming humans.

A small side note: feverfew is closely related to tansy and was quite often studied in the same way tansy has been. It may have the same benefits for parasite detox.

11. Ginger

Ginger is a favorite spice used to flavor cookies, drinks, and savory dishes. Its intense in flavor and is often used for stomach ailments. Ginger essential oil may also be significant for any parasite cleanse protocol.

Ginger showed to be helpful in reducing the number of worms and eggs. It seemed to help whether they were in the intestines or the liver. It also may help to minimize the damage of these organs from the parasites. Ginger can bring down inflammation often induced by these organisms. (31) It may also be of benefit when fighting the types of parasites that produce diarrhea. In addition to its anti-parasitic signs, it can help protect the intestines from damage during this kind of infection. (32)

12. Cinnamon

Cinnamon is another well known favorite spice used in sweet breads, teas, and meat rubs. In ancient times it was considered so valuable that it was used to trade for other goods. Although it still doesn’t hold large trade value, cinnamon oil may prove to be valuable in regards to a parasite cleanse.

Cinnamon essential oil can inhibit the larvae from moving to other parts of the body. Of the botanicals tested for this particular feature, cinnamon ranked the highest. (33) Cinnamon oil may also help to kill the larvae. It damaged the gut of the organisms leading to lesions in their digestive system. This is thought to be what prompted their death.

Cinnamon essential oil may be another oil that can help to inhibit biofilm formation. (34)

Better Together

Essential oils are better together

The majority of essential oils have common characteristics. They tend to:

  • Have anti-inflammatory properties
  • Have antibacterial effects
  • Help to fight fungal infections
  • Reduce larvae or adult parasitic activity
  • Help to inhibit egg development
  • Help to reduce and disrupt biofilm formation

Essential oils are unique in the fact that often they are more beneficial when used together. They can have an exponentially higher efficacy when combined. Blending two or more oils during your parasite cleanse can offer you better parasite detox than using a single oil. One may have a stronger effect for example on biofilm. Another may inhibit the parasites more. Mixing them can maximize their potency. Ginger may have substantial activity against parasites. But the results were better when combined with cinnamon for instance. (35)

The other properties we’ve just mentioned can provide extra help during a parasite detox. Using essential oils for parasites may help you to avoid additional symptoms as they are clearing out of your body. For example, parasites tend to create inflammation. Reducing the inflammation as they are clearing out may help you to overcome your parasite infection more rapidly. Disrupting their biofilm helps to create an environment where they can no longer thrive. Your immune system can start to address these parasites. Without the biofilm, they can no longer hide.

Essential oils may provide added benefits and could enhance other parasites cleanse protocols. It can be an extra layer of defense to augment other parasite detox items you may be taking.
